BUR- Built Up Roofing

BUR is an acronym which stands for built-up roofing. The basic system has been around for over a century, but BUR roofing product technology has vastly improved over the years. Today, BUR is a popular method of commercial roofing, composed of alternating layers of reinforcing fabric and asphalt which is finished with a top layer of aggregate, such as gravel. BUR is used widely on low-slope and flat roofs because it produces a continuous sealed surface. Today’s modern built-up roofing products now incorporate a rigid insulation layer for improved energy efficiency.

TPO Roofing - Single Ply

Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) is composed of synthetic materials and fabric reinforcements for extra strength and durability as a single-ply membrane. TPO is moisture-resistant and contains natural reflective properties to deflect ultraviolet rays of the sun, which can cause roofing to dry out and crack over time, especially in climates like that of Central and South Florida. TPO tends to conserve energy within a building, as well.

MBR - ModBit Roofing

MBR or modified bitumen roofing is a flexible coating. The base material is similar to asphalt shingles, but MBR comes in rolled sheets. The sheets are rolled onto the roof atop a base sheet membrane. MBR is lightweight and performs well in cold weather, which affects Central Florida during the months of December and January, especially. MBR roofing is often self-adhesive for peel-and-stick installation. It’s also lightweight and performs well in colder weather. Over the last 50 years, modified bitumen was greatly improved through the addition of modifiers–Atactic polypropylene (APP) and styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS).

Metal Roofing Systems

The benefits offered by Century Roofing’s metal roofing products enable commercial property owners to add style and significant value to their buildings. Metal roofing is extremely long-lasting and the sleek look of metal panels provide a contemporary look to a commercial structure. Metal roofing has long been used on agricultural buildings, factories, storage facilities, and warehouses which benefits greatly from the low maintenance requirements of corrugated metal and standing seam metal roofing. Newly engineered roofing lasts much longer than even the durable metal roofs used just a few decades ago!

Membrane Recovery Systems

A Membrane Recovery System can be your best and most economical option for an aging or damaged roof. Preventative maintenance is the best way to add longevity to a commercial roof. But, if you’ve let routine maintenance slip, or if you inherited roof problems after buying a building, consider a roof recovery by Century Roofing Specialists. Our innovative system uses a new membrane over your existing roof. If the structural integrity of your roof deck is still intact, Century Roofing’s Membrane Recovery System can be installed to ensure the prevention of leaks and other types of damage.

Signs of Commercial Roof Damage:

The main challenge with flat and low-slope roofs is that they can develop uneven surfaces, perhaps due to warping under the heat of the relentless Florida sun, and over time. While standard sloped roofs typically have shingles that overlap so that water slides over them, a flat roof is a continuous surface capable of holding standing water until it runs off or evaporates. Uneven areas cause “pooling” or accumulated water that takes too long to evaporate and puts undue weight on the roof structure. Moisture retention also promotes fungal growth, and hastens wear.

  • Excessive retention of standing or “ponding” water
  • Cracked, sun-baked, or age-deteriorating roof covering
  • Exposed fibers and/or lining of the membrane
  • Corroding seals around roof penetrations, such as, vents and skylights
  • Loose, wavy, or wrinkling membrane
  • Punctures, rips, tears, and open seams
  • Rusting mounting hardware associated with rooftop equipment, such as, HVAC units
